This position is located at Royal Gorge Cross Country (RGXC), Sugar Bowl's Nordic ski resort. RGXC is located 10 minutes west of Sugar Bowl in Soda Springs, CA. With over 100 miles of Cross-Country ski trails, RGXC is the premier Nordic ski destination in the Tahoe region.

Royal Gorge Cross Country, Sugar Bowl's Nordic ski area, is now hiring a Ski School & Events Manager. We are seeking an integral member of the winter leadership team who will deliver an on-brand, exceptional experience for ski team members, event participants, sponsors, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include race trail grooming plan and scheduling, event scheduling and promotion, sponsor recruitment and sales, and ski instructor management and timekeeping. In collaboration with the General Manager, the Ski School & Events Manager will execute all planned events, races, event series, and ski team activities - and is expected to make operational decisions related to events and ski school in the Director's absence.

Who You Are

  • 10+ years of Nordic ski industry-related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Nordic winter trail grooming, maintenance, and equipment
  • Significant experience as a Nordic race director, USSA Coach, or Technical Delegate
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to provide excellent guest service in a dynamic, sometimes high-volume, environment
  • A proven track record recruiting and staffing cross-country departments, including supervisory experience and employee performance management
  • A working knowledge of ski resort operations, specifically grooming operations, racecourse design and maintenance, and ski team operations
  • Comfortable delivering effective front-line training
  • Skilled at solving practical problems and navigating a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization
  • Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • A valid Class C Driver License, with a driving record meeting the minimum standards required by our insurance carrier

What You’ll do

  • Hire, orient, train, direct, motivate, evaluate, and discipline all assigned staff, and oversee work schedules in accordance with Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge policies/procedures and state and federal regulations
  • Manage assigned operations to meet annual operating and capital budget goals
  • Secure event sponsorship and execute on sponsor deliverables
  • Work with the Director and Assistant Manager to set the race and event grooming schedule
  • Coordinate and schedule all ski team activities
  • Coordinate area set-up for races, special events, and promotions
  • Maintain current expert-level knowledge of cross-country ski trends, including technical and equipment trends
  • Assist with planning racecourse layout, maintenance, and repair
  • Assist with snow removal, including shoveling and clearing walkways, stairs, equipment, and other areas as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Comfortable working outdoors in cold, winter High Sierra weather conditions for extended periods, including during events and race operations
  • Able to walk and stand safely on varied terrain, including snow and ice, while overseeing race courses and event setup
  • Capable of shoveling and clearing snow, including heavy, wet snow, as needed
  • Advanced or expert-level skiing ability sufficient to inspect trails, race courses, and grooming quality firsthand
  • Comfortable traveling locally around the resort and Nordic trail system to support event setup, grooming coordination, and race operations
  • Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to safely oversee events, athletes, and staff across a large outdoor venue
